MAK Solvent

Methyl N-Amyl Ketone
Excellent Solvent Activity
High Dilution Ratio
Low Density
Readily Biodegradable
Low Surface Tension
Low Evaporation Rate

Description

MAK (Methyl N-Amyl Ketone, or 2-Heptanone) has a high solvent activity, slow evaporation rate, low density, low surface tension, and high boiling point. These properties make MAK a very good solvent for cellulosic lacquers, acrylic lacquers, and high-solids coatings. Due to restrictions on solvent usage in oil-based paints, using low-density solvents helps reduce the VOC content in coatings. MAK’s density is lower than that of esters, aromatic hydrocarbons, and glycol ethers with similar evaporation rates. Its low density and high activity provide distinct advantages in formulating high-solid coatings that comply with VOC regulations. Additionally, MAK serves as an effective polymerization solvent for high-solid acrylic resins.
